Rickshaw Circus
Social Circus Project, 2012, Afghanistan/Pakistan/Iran/Turkey
The Rickshaw Circus was a social circus project centering on a creative arts therapeutic approach to healthy child development.
The name encapsulates the project: three performers drove with a motorized three-wheeler rickshaw over 8.000 km from Kabul (Afghanistan) through Pakistan, Iran, all the way to Istanbul (Turkey). On the way we partnered with local organizations, which work with children in marginalized communities, cancer hospitals, refugee camps, and orphanages. We offered shows and workshops for the children, but also trainings and exchanges for the employees, discussing how to include arts and creative practices more centrally into their work.
The project was conceived in support of the Mobile Mini Circus (MMCC) in Afghanistan.
